In Chinese, the term “acupuncture” sounds like “Zhen-Jiu” and means “pricking produced with special needles.” The history of the use of acupuncture in the treatment of people and animals has common roots, ancient doctors treated both people and animals with acupuncture and moxibustion with equal success, and therefore it is impossible to separate the history of the development of Zhen-Jiu therapy in medicine and veterinary medicine. The first book on veterinary acupuncture was published in China in the 7th century BC by the physician Be-Lo. Judging by written sources, this method was used at that distant time in Egypt, India, Tibet, Nepal, Korea, and China.
